Estonian Amateur Open 2011

The venue of Estonian Amateur Open 2012 has been confirmed

Tallinn, 29.03.2012 – One of our biggest sporting events this year – Estonian Amateur Open 2012  will be held at Saare Golf Club from 6th till 8th July. This is the second  consecutive time when the tournament goes to Saaremaa – the biggest island of Estonia. As  points are shared by WAGR – World Amateur Golf Ranking this event attracts some of the best Amateur Golfers around Europe.

The event was originally booked at Estonian Golf & Country Club this year, but has been shifted back to Saaremaa two reasons:  The first – Open 2011 was a great success. The second and even more important one is the fact that EGCC is well packed with tournaments this summer, including European Mid-Amateur Championship – explained Rein Raudsepp the secretary of the Estonian Golf Association.

Estonian Amateur Open 2011 which attracted 68 golfers from 8 countries  was played at Saare GC from 9-11th June and it was surely one of the best tournaments of the year. The course archidect is well known Lassi Pekka Tilander from Finland and the course itself is  one of the hardest around. EstAmOpen 2011 winner Roger Ropes has also described it as one of the trickiest courses he has ever played. Excellent green-keeping and organisation by Saare GC staff has surely risen the bar for the others.

This years tournament will be played same as last year – 54 holes of strokeplay over 3 days from Friday 6th till Sunday 8th July. The maximum number of players from both, men and women in total is 144 from which ¾ will pass the cut for the final round on Sunday.

As it was such a superb tournament in 2011 the expectations are even higher this time around. Therefore we certainly recommend to make your bookings early.
